Breast Reconstruction - Patient 1 |
|
A 46yr old woman who underwent a full mastectomy for breast cancer, and then had chemotherapy and radiation therapy came to Dr. Agha in January of 2007 with very tight and leathery left chest tissue and skin for breast reconstruction. this invovled a three-stage process of reconstructing both breasts.
The first stage:
- moving back muscle and skin (Latissimus Dorsi Muscle) to bring tissue to her chest area
- installing a breast tissue expander was also under the muscle
- creation of a new mammary fold under each newly planned breast
The second stage
- multiple cycles of in-office tissue expansion through inflation of the breast expanders
- approximately 3 months later, once enough tissue had been generated by expansion her expanders were replaced with 400 cc silicone implants
- small revisions were also performed
The third stage, approximately three months later:
- nipple areola reconstruction
About 1 year after her first surgery, the patient received medical tattooing of her newly reconstructed nipples
Final post-operative photos were taken at 18 months after the completion of the first stage. |
